[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korean police have launched a preliminary investigation into a personal data breach at BGF Networks, which operates the parcel delivery service for CU, following a hacking incident.
The Cyber Terror Response Division under the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency announced on June 8 that it had initiated a pre-indictment investigation on June 6 to determine the full scope of the incident and swiftly identify and apprehend the suspect.
Authorities plan to examine how the data breach occurred and assess the extent of damage, while expediting procedures necessary to identify and track down those responsible.
Earlier, on June 5, BGF Networks disclosed via the CU POST website that it had identified signs of unauthorized access by a hacker, resulting in the leakage of personal information.
According to the company, the compromised data includes users’ names, mobile phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, gender, user IDs, and passwords. The exact scale of the breach remains under investigation.
BGF Networks stated that it immediately blocked the malicious IP addresses upon detecting the attack, implemented security measures, and reported the incident to relevant authorities, including the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.
