[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Washington, D.C., September 15, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 15th (local time) that American companies should move from quarterly to semiannual earnings reporting, arguing that such a shift would reduce costs and allow executives to better focus on running their businesses.

Posting on Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “SEC approval is required, but companies should no longer be forced into quarterly reporting. They should report every six months instead.”

He added, “This will not only save money but also enable corporate leaders to concentrate more effectively on company operations. China runs its companies with a 50- to 100-year perspective, while our companies are managed on a quarterly basis. That is not desirable.”

Trump’s remarks are seen as part of an effort to address concerns that corporate executives focus excessively on short-term results, undermining their ability to pursue long-term strategies. By reducing the frequency of mandatory reports, he suggested, companies could achieve greater flexibility in management while lowering compliance costs.

This is not the first time President Trump has raised the issue. During his first term in 2018, he wrote on Twitter (now X) that a global business leader had recommended moving to a six-month reporting cycle, and that he had asked the SEC to study the idea.

Since 1970, U.S. law has required publicly traded companies to file quarterly earnings reports. If shifted to a semiannual system, the U.S. would align its reporting frequency with that of several European countries, according to Axios.
