[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] Gunfire erupted near a dinner event attended by Donald Trump, prompting his emergency evacuation, though no injuries were reported among key attendees.
According to reports on April 25 (local time), the incident occurred at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner held at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance were among those present.
The disturbance took place about 30 minutes after the event began, when multiple sounds resembling gunfire were heard. U.S. Secret Service agents immediately rushed to the stage, alerting attendees and initiating emergency protocols.
President Trump and other high-profile attendees took cover and were swiftly evacuated from the venue.
Authorities later confirmed that the shooting occurred outside the main banquet hall, in a security screening area. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said an armed suspect attempted to breach the security perimeter and fired at Secret Service personnel. One agent, protected by body armor, was not seriously injured. The suspect was subdued and taken into custody at the scene.
President Trump later confirmed via social media that all attendees were safe and praised law enforcement for their swift response.
The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, a longstanding event symbolizing engagement between the U.S. presidency and the press, was halted and is expected to be rescheduled.
This marks another security incident involving President Trump, who has faced multiple threats in recent years, including prior shooting-related incidents during campaign and public appearances.
