[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Amazon (AMZN) is gaining momentum in the U.S. same-day grocery delivery market, driving weakness in shares of competing delivery platforms.
As of 12:59 p.m. on the 10th (local time), Amazon was trading at $231.45, up 1.55% ($3.53) from the previous session. In contrast, Instacart parent Maplebear (CART) plunged 7.18%, while DoorDash (DASH) fell 5.08% and Uber (UBER) dropped 6.61%.
Amazon said it has successfully executed the expansion plan unveiled last summer and is now offering same-day grocery delivery in more than 2,300 cities and towns across the United States.
According to the company, nine of the top ten items sold in regions where same-day grocery delivery is available are fresh foods. Amazon added that it plans to expand the service to additional cities next year.
