[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Intel, a U.S. semiconductor company, will receive funds amounting to up to $19.5 billion (about 26 trillion won).
"The Commerce Department has reached a preliminary agreement to provide up to $8.5 billion in direct funds and $11 billion in loans to Intel under the Peninsula Act," the White House said in a statement on the 20th (local time). According to foreign media, U.S. President Joe Biden will visit Chandler, Arizona, to make his own announcement.
The White House said the funds allocated to Intel will be used to build and expand Intel facilities in Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico and Oregon. The White House predicted that this would help create about 30,000 jobs in the United States and support hundreds of thousands of indirect jobs.
Samsung Electronics, which invested in the U.S., is also known to receive subsidies of more than $ 6 billion (about 8 trillion won) under the Bando Act. The U.S. government plans to announce a plan to provide subsidies to Samsung Electronics later this month. In addition, Taiwan's semiconductor company TSMC is expected to receive $ 5 billion (about 6.7 trillion won) in subsidies.
The Semiconductor Act is a provision designed to encourage semiconductor companies to invest in facilities in the United States. The key point is to provide a total of 52.7 billion dollars (about 70.7 trillion won) to companies that build factories in the U.S. over the next five years, including a total of 39 billion dollars (about 52.3 trillion won) and a total of 13.2 billion dollars (about 18 trillion won).
