[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] A tragic accident involving Xiaomi’s electric vehicle, the SU7 (known as the "Suci" in China), resulted in the death of three passengers who could not escape the vehicle after it crashed and exploded. The incident occurred on March 29 on a highway in Anhui Province, China, according to local media reports.

According to sources like Southern City News, the vehicle crashed into a guardrail, leading to the tragic loss of life. A family member of the victims, who identified themselves as an online commenter, claimed that after the vehicle hit the guardrail, the doors locked, and the battery exploded, causing the three passengers to be trapped inside and burn alive.

Xiaomi responded to the incident on March 1 via its social media platform, Weibo. The company stated that the crash occurred at 10:44 PM on the Morexiang Highway, while the vehicle was operating with its Autopilot assist feature (NOA, Navigate on Autopilot) and traveling at 116 km/h before the accident.

The accident happened in an area of the highway undergoing repairs, where the lanes had been temporarily closed and traffic was rerouted. The vehicle detected an obstacle, alerted the driver, and reduced speed. The driver then took manual control and attempted to slow down, but the vehicle collided with the guardrail. The last recorded speed of the vehicle before the crash was 97 km/h.
