Fire at Kia’s Hwaseong Plant Extinguished in 30 Minutes; Minor Injuries Reported

[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] A fire broke out at a facility of Kia in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, on the morning of May 10 and was fully extinguished within approximately 30 minutes.

According to authorities, the fire started at around 8:11 a.m. in a building at Kia’s Hwaseong plant located in Seokcheon-ri, Ujeong-eup. Some workers sustained minor injuries, including smoke inhalation, and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

A total of 10 individuals were evacuated from the site.

The fire is believed to have originated in an area where vehicle painting processes are carried out. It was brought under control at approximately 8:46 a.m. by Kia’s in-house firefighting team.

Fire authorities dispatched 32 units of equipment and around 90 personnel to assist with suppression efforts and to secure the site.

Officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
