[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Beijing, September 19, 2025 – Xiaomi announced it will recall 116,887 units of its SU7 electric sedan due to safety risks linked to its Level 2 (L2) highway driver-assistance system, following regulatory approval by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).
The recall covers SU7 Standard models manufactured between February 6, 2024, and August 30, 2025. Authorities cited insufficient detection, warning, and corrective response under extreme driving conditions while the L2 system is engaged, potentially increasing the risk of collisions if drivers fail to intervene in time.
Xiaomi Auto stated the defect will be addressed through an over-the-air (OTA) software update, enhancing reliability of the driver-assistance system. The update will optimize speed control functions, especially under complex conditions such as rainy weather and nighttime driving.
According to industry data (CNEV Post), SU7 sales reached 339,421 units as of August 2025, meaning nearly one-third of all vehicles sold are affected by the recall.
This move comes about six months after a fatal accident in Anhui Province, where an SU7 in highway autopilot mode collided with a guardrail, killing three passengers. The incident, coupled with allegations of misleading advertising, sharply reduced new SU7 orders in April.
Launched in March 2024, the SU7 is Xiaomi’s first EV model, marking the electronics giant’s entry into the auto industry just three years after announcing its plans. Following recent accidents, Chinese regulators have begun drafting national standards for autonomous driving, clarifying that L2 systems are driver-assist features, not full self-driving, and require constant human supervision.
