[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Collaboration between Hyundai Motor and LG in the automotive field, particularly in electric and electronic equipment, is gaining momentum.

On the 26th, LG Electronics announced that it would supply its vehicle-oriented 'webOS' content platform (pictured) to Kia's entry-level electric vehicle EV3, set to be released domestically in July. WebOS is an operating system that powers LG Smart TVs, and LG Electronics has developed a vehicle-specific version of webOS based on the validated webOS used in TVs. Last October, LG supplied webOS to Hyundai Motor's premium brand Genesis for the 'GV80' vehicle.

This marks the first time webOS is being integrated into an electric vehicle. With webOS in the Kia EV3, occupants in the driver's and passenger's seats can enjoy various content via real-time streaming, complying with driving safety regulations. The webOS for EV3 provides content through 12 dedicated apps, including LG channels, YouTube, Netflix, and Tving.

LG, strengthening its automotive business, is striving to increase deliveries to Hyundai Motor, which has ascended to the third-largest global automotive company. This effort is yielding results, as demonstrated by LG Display supplying a vehicle-specific 27-inch wide OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panel for the 2024 model GV80.
