[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Homeplus, currently undergoing corporate rehabilitation proceedings, announced that it will suspend operations at five of its stores until the end of January.

A Homeplus official told Yonhap News on December 30, “Due to the lack of measures such as relaxed trading conditions with suppliers and normalization of delivery volumes, we have decided to halt operations until the end of January as part of restructuring to improve our financial situation.”

The stores affected by the temporary closure are Gyesan, Siheung, Ansan Gojan, Cheonan Sinbang, and Dongchon.

Previously, on December 28, Homeplus also suspended operations at five other locations, including Gayang, Jangnim, Ilsan, Woncheon, and Ulsan Buk-gu.

According to reports, Homeplus included these temporary closure plans in its rehabilitation plan submitted to the Seoul Bankruptcy Court on December 29.

Earlier in August, Homeplus had planned to close 15 stores, including the ones currently affected, but postponed the decision in September following negotiations for improved trading conditions. Due to worsening financial conditions, the company has now resumed the plan.

The closures will affect grocery operations only. Other tenants within the stores will continue to operate or may relocate if desired.
