[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Hyundai Motor has become the first car brand to launch vehicle sales on Amazon, the largest e-commerce platform in the U.S.

On Tuesday (local time), Hyundai Motor America announced via a press release that it had officially begun selling cars on Amazon's website. This initiative follows Hyundai’s strategic partnership with Amazon, unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2023. After more than a year of preparation, Hyundai has launched its sales system through the Amazon Autos section, allowing local Hyundai dealerships to list and sell vehicles on the platform.

The sales model operates like an open marketplace: dealerships upload vehicle listings to Amazon Autos, and prices may vary depending on the dealer and region. The key feature of the system is its simplicity—customers can order cars with just a few clicks. Financing options for auto loans are also available, and customers can either pick up their vehicle from the dealership or request delivery. Hyundai emphasized that it is the "first and only automotive brand available for purchase on Amazon Autos."

The automaker plans to conduct extensive marketing across the U.S. and anticipates that online sales will account for 30% of its total U.S. sales within the next 5–6 years. Hyundai’s global COO, José Muñoz, highlighted the company's focus on sales innovation, stating, "We aim to reduce the time it takes to purchase a car to around 15 minutes."

While Tesla sells vehicles exclusively through its official website, Hyundai’s move sets a precedent by leveraging Amazon’s reach. Hyundai has already experimented with online direct sales in markets like South Korea, where it sells the compact Casper, and in countries such as the UK and India for select models.
