[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, reported record-high revenue and profit for the second quarter of 2024, fueled by surging demand for AI semiconductors.

According to the Q2 results released on July 17, TSMC posted:

Revenue: NT$933.79 billion (approx. KRW 44 trillion),

Operating Profit: NT$463.42 billion (approx. KRW 22 trillion),

Net Income: NT$398.27 billion (approx. KRW 19 trillion), exceeding market expectations of NT$377.9 billion.

These figures mark the highest quarterly performance in the company's history, with revenue up 38.6% and operating profit up 61.8% year-over-year. Net income also rose 60.7% from a year earlier.

TSMC’s strong performance was largely driven by robust demand for high-performance computing (HPC) chips, particularly those powering AI applications. The company manufactures AI semiconductors for clients such as NVIDIA.

In Q2, HPC-related sales accounted for 60% of TSMC’s total revenue. Ultra-fine process nodes played a significant role, with:

5nm chips contributing 36%,

3nm chips contributing 24%,

7nm chips contributing 14%,
resulting in 74% of total revenue coming from advanced nodes.

Despite ongoing geopolitical and tariff uncertainties under the Trump administration, TSMC expressed confidence in sustained growth, citing persistent AI demand.

The company projected Q3 revenue guidance between $31.8 billion and $33.0 billion USD, signaling continued momentum.
