[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] IU’s remake of Park Hye-kyung’s “Red Shoes” has caused a sensational spike in music royalties, with the copyright earnings per share skyrocketing over 180 times in just one month.

According to Musicow on July 16, the platform revealed its June copyright royalty settlement data. Musicow distributes royalties to investors on the 10th business day of each month and shares a “Settlement Note” beforehand, summarizing key trends, including top royalty gainers, songs with consecutive increases, and breakdowns by media type.

In June, the “Red Shoes” copyright security generated 21,218 KRW per share in royalties—up from 113 KRW in May—marking the highest growth rate among all tracked songs. This surge followed IU’s release of a remake version in late May, which attracted widespread public attention. A public notice regarding additional trust property from the derivative work (remake) has since been posted.

For “Red Shoes”, 89.9% of the royalties came from reproduction usage fees, typically generated from albums, films, or advertisements—highlighting strong commercial usage.

Following “Red Shoes”, the songs with the highest month-over-month royalty growth were:

“Salmangjigo” by 4Minute

“Beautiful” by C JAMM (feat. Zico)

“BABY DON’T CRY” by Daesung

“Rainbow Falling” by Cha Eun-woo (ASTRO)
