[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Five domestic cars sold 106,386 units in the domestic market last month, down 6.2% from the same period last year, the report showed.
Hyundai Motor, GM Korea, Renault Korea and KG Mobility, excluding Kia, saw their sales fall all at once compared to the same period last year due to sluggish electric vehicles and the absence of new cars. In particular, Hyundai's sluggishness in electric vehicles has become more apparent. The long Chuseok holiday also seems to have had some impact on overall sales.
Hyundai Motor sold 53,911 units in domestic demand, down 5% year-on-year. Kia sold 44,123 units in Korea, up 5% during the period. The combined share of Hyundai Motor Group accounted for 92 percent of the domestic market.
Hyundai Motor's slump in electric vehicles has become apparent. A total of 2,876 electric vehicles were sold, down about 64% from the same period last year. Sales of SUVs such as Santa Fe increased by about 2,000 units during the period, but overall sales backtracked due to sluggish electric vehicles.
Kia, on the other hand, sold 44,123 units in Korea, with Sorento selling 10,190 units, ranking first in overall passenger car sales. In other words, the SUV has been on the rise.

GM Korea's domestic sales fell 20% from last year to 2,632 units. The new Trax crossover, released in March, is barely leading the sales, accounting for more than half of the total sales. KG Mobility is also experiencing the aftermath of the end of the effect of its flagship SUV Torres new car with 4,069 units in domestic demand last month. Domestic demand fell 47% year-on-year. Renault Korea saw its sales drop 67.3 percent on-year to 1,651 units in September, continuing sluggish sales stemming from the absence of new cars.
On the other hand, overseas sales of five companies rose 3.4% year-on-year to 566,688 units. In the aftermath, the total sales of domestic demand and exports rose 1.8% year-on-year to 673,074 units.
