[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, September 22, 2025 – HD Hyundai Electric announced on September 22 that it has secured the largest single contract in its history for the supply of ultra-high voltage transformers and reactors in the United States.
The company revealed that it has signed a deal worth KRW 277.8 billion to supply 24 units of 765kV transformers and reactors, with delivery scheduled for 2029.
The 765kV ultra-high voltage transformers are the highest-voltage specification currently in use in the U.S. power grid, designed for long-distance transmission networks. Compared to 345kV transformers, the 765kV units allow electricity to be transmitted at higher voltages, significantly reducing power losses and construction costs while expanding transmission capacity by up to five times.
HD Hyundai Electric explained that demand for ultra-high voltage transformers in the U.S. is increasing due to the country’s vast geography, expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) industries, growth of data centers, and acceleration of renewable energy deployment. To meet this rising demand, the company plans to expand its Alabama plant by 2027, strengthening its local production capacity and responsiveness in the North American market.
