[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] This weekend, cherry blossom festivals without cherry blossoms were held all over the country. This is due to the recent cold and rainy weather, which has delayed cherry blossom blooming than expected.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration's "Spring Flower Blooming Status" on the 31st, the whole country has yet to bloom cherry blossoms except for southern regions such as Busan, South Gyeongsang Province and South Jeolla Province. The Korea Meteorological Administration observes the current status of cherry blossoms and classifies them into flowering, blooming, and full bloom, but there are no places where cherry blossoms are in full bloom yet.

Eventually, some local governments decided to postpone the cherry blossom festival or hold it for two weeks. Sokcho City, Gangwon Province, posted a notice on the 27th, three days before the opening of the 2024 Yeongrang Lake Cherry Blossom Festival, saying, "I am guilty of my life. I cannot beat the sky." The city of Sokcho has decided to hold the festival, which was originally scheduled to be held for two days from 30th to 31st, on the 6th to 7th of this month. Gyeongju City in Gyeongbuk Province and Gangneung City in Gangwon Province also postponed the cherry blossom festival schedule by a week.

Cherry blossoms are not expected to be seen until late next week.
