[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] TASHKENT, Uzbekistan / SEOUL, Oct. 15 — Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) announced that it has signed a 348 billion won (approximately USD 25 million) contract to provide airport operation services for the new Tashkent International Airport project in Uzbekistan.
The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Tashkent Airport, held on October 15 (local time), which IIAC President Lee Hak-jae attended at the official invitation of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The event was also attended by senior Uzbek government officials and project partners.
President Lee stated,
“The new Tashkent International Airport is one of the core projects of Uzbekistan’s ‘New Uzbekistan 2030’ National Development Plan and represents a symbolic initiative that will elevate both Uzbekistan’s aviation logistics capabilities and Korea’s global airport development influence to a new level.”
The new Tashkent International Airport is a mega infrastructure project with a total investment of approximately 4.7 trillion won, designed to handle 17 million passengers annually upon completion of Phase 1, and up to 54 million passengers when fully completed.
IIAC’s participation in the groundbreaking ceremony followed the signing of the airport operation services agreement between IIAC and Saudi Vision Invest, the project’s lead developer, on October 14 (local time).
Through this contract, IIAC secured USD 25.48 million (approximately 34.8 billion won) in new overseas revenue over the next five years.
At the ceremony, IIAC outlined its plans to apply the Incheon Airport development and operation model to the Tashkent project and discussed technical advisory and operational support measures with project partners to ensure successful cooperation.
