[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] PHNOM PENH / SEOUL, Oct. 16 — Cambodia’s national police announced that 59 South Korean nationals involved in online scam operations will be deported to South Korea on October 17 (local time), according to a report by AFP on Wednesday.

In an official statement, the Cambodian National Police said,

“We plan to deport 59 South Koreans who were either rescued by Cambodian authorities from scam operations or detained on other criminal charges, in cooperation with the South Korean Embassy in Phnom Penh.”

Initially, 63 South Koreans were detained by the Cambodian Immigration Department, but two were repatriated earlier on October 14 aboard a South Korean flight, leaving 59 individuals awaiting deportation.

The figure differs slightly from the 61 individuals identified by the South Korean government. Seoul has stated that it is arranging return flights and aims to complete the repatriation process by this weekend.

South Korean authorities are reportedly prioritizing the return of individuals with outstanding arrest warrants, coordinating closely with Cambodian law enforcement agencies.
