[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] On June 6, the special investigation team led by Special Prosecutor Cho Un-seok officially requested an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol. This move comes less than three weeks after the special counsel began its probe into alleged sedition and treason surrounding the so-called "12·3 Emergency Martial Law" plot.

The request signals a major turning point in the investigation, as Yoon has been identified as a central figure in the case. The success of the special counsel’s inquiry—particularly into related foreign collusion and conspiracy charges—may hinge on whether the warrant is granted.

Special Prosecutor Park Ji-young confirmed at a briefing that the warrant was submitted to the Seoul Central District Court at 5:20 p.m. on Thursday. While the specific grounds for the warrant were not disclosed, Park stated, “We will provide full clarification during the court’s detention review hearing.”

The decision to seek detention is reportedly based on the seriousness of the charges and concerns that Yoon, who has categorically denied all allegations in two prior interrogations, may coordinate testimony with other suspects, potentially tampering with evidence.

The court is expected to schedule a pretrial detention hearing soon, with the ruling likely to have a significant impact on the trajectory and credibility of the special prosecutor’s broader investigation.
