[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] A fatal accident occurred at a construction site in Seoul, where a worker in his 50s died, prompting labor authorities to investigate whether there was a violation of the Serious Accident Punishment Act.

According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 28th, at around 9:30 AM on the same day, a fatal incident occurred at a Kumho Construction site in Dongdaemun, Seoul. The deceased, identified as A (57), was working on a subcontracted project, manufacturing H-beams (steel pillars) for underground excavation when he was crushed by a reversing excavator.

The Seoul Metropolitan Employment Office's Large-scale Serious Accident Investigation and Construction Industrial Accident Supervision departments immediately ordered a partial work stoppage and launched an investigation upon being notified of the accident.

The Serious Accident Punishment Act mandates that business owners or managers be held accountable and penalized if a fatal accident occurs at the workplace. Specifically, it applies in cases where:

One or more workers die,

Two or more workers are severely injured and require treatment for six months or more due to the same incident,

Three or more workers are diagnosed with occupational diseases, such as acute poisoning, from the same hazardous factor within a year.
