[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, October 30, 2025 — South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has ordered an immediate suspension and recall of imported bananas distributed by Lotte Mart after detecting pesticide residues that exceeded legal limits by several times.

According to the MFDS, the affected product is “B750 Banana,” imported from Vietnam by Lotte Shopping Co., Ltd. (Lotte Mart Business Division) on October 14.

Tests revealed the presence of Clothianidin at 0.04 mg/kg and Thiamethoxam at 0.05 mg/kg, equivalent to four times and 2.5 times their respective permissible limits. Both substances are pesticides commonly used for pest control in fruits and vegetables.

The total imported quantity subject to recall amounts to 51.4 tons.

The MFDS has instructed Lotte Mart to immediately halt sales and recall all affected products, emphasizing consumer safety. It also advised customers who have purchased the bananas to stop consumption and return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening food safety monitoring for imported agricultural products and taking swift action against violations to ensure consumer protection.
