[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Foreign media reported that Samsung Electronics is making a prototype line for high-tech semiconductor devices in Japan.

Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported on the 14th that Samsung Electronics will invest more than 30 billion yen (about 300 billion won) to create a prototype line for high-tech semiconductor devices in Yokohama, Japan.

It is said that it will start maintenance for the establishment of a new base within the year and aim to operate it in 2025. It is expected to build a three-dimensional semiconductor packaging and other post-process R&D lines.

Recently, the Japanese government has come up with incentives and other support measures to build semiconductor plants in the country to rebuild the semiconductor industry.

Taiwan's TSMC, the world's No. 1 foundry (semiconductor consignment production) company, is continuing to invest in semiconductor facilities in Japan.

Samsung Electronics is also reorganizing its business in Japan this year by launching Device Solution Research Japan (DSRJ), which reorganized its semiconductor research and development (R&D) organization in Japan.
