[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Regarding concerns that the price of soju sold at restaurants will rise to 6,000 won in the wake of tax hikes, the liquor industry said it has no plans to raise it one after another. Each company seems to have felt considerable pressure as the government decided to conduct a survey on soju manufacturers.
Hite Jinro announced on the 27th that it plans not to raise the price of soju for the time being. Hite Jinro added, "There are price hikes, but we decided to ease the burden on consumers and self-employed people." It came a day after the government's investigation into liquor companies was announced.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance was planning to check the factors behind the increase in the price of cattle and to look at the price increase trend of manufacturers.
Lotte Chilsung Beverage has also not decided whether to raise its store price this year. Hite Jinro and Lotte Chilsung Beverage raised the price of soju by about 8% in about three years in February and March last year.
The price of beer is also maintained. OB Beer said, "We have no plans to raise product prices for the time being despite the increase in liquor taxes in April."
