[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korea’s Labor Ministry has launched an investigation into possible violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act after an explosion at SK Energy’s Ulsan refinery left six casualties, including one dead and another in critical condition.

The ministry halted all maintenance work and formed a 15-member task force to probe whether SK Energy breached safety laws. A separate 27-member inspection team will conduct a two-week intensive audit of the entire refinery, focusing on safety management systems, subcontractor oversight, and risk evaluations.

Officials said any safety violations will face a zero-tolerance response.
