[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Hanwha Aerospace will establish its first European subsidiary in Poland in the second half of this year.
Hanwha Aerospace plans to expand its Polish subsidiary to a local production base in Europe in the future and make it a hub for exports to Europe as well as the Middle East.
"We will establish a base there to cope with the growing demand for conventional weapons in Europe due to the Ukrainian war," a senior Hanwha Group official said on the 9th. "Poland, which actively purchases Korean weapons, has been selected as a country with European subsidiaries."
Hanwha Group integrated its defense business, which had been distributed to Hanwha Corporation, Hanwha Defense, and Hanwha Aerospace, into Hanwha Aerospace earlier this year. Therefore, the establishment of the European corporation can mean that it will be the first overseas hub since Hanwha's integration into the defense sector. Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan is directly in charge of overseas expansion as CEO of Hanwha Aerospace's strategic division.
Hanwha Aerospace currently has production bases in Connecticut, USA, and Hanoi, Vietnam, where it produces aviation engine parts. Weapons such as self-propelled howitzers, armored vehicles, and launchers are all manufactured at the Changwon plant in Korea. It is building its first overseas defense plant in Victoria, Australia, capable of producing self-propelled howitzers and armored vehicles.
