[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Domestic furniture companies such as Hanssem, Enex, and Wooami have been indicted without detention on charges of collusion.
Prosecutors on the 20th indicted corporations and executives of furniture companies, including Hanssem, without physical detention on charges of colluding to bid for 2.3 trillion won worth of households.
The Fair Trade Investigation Department (Senior Prosecutor Lee Jung-seop) at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office indicted 12 executives and employees of eight furniture companies, including Hanssem, Hanssem Nexus, Nefs, Enex, Nexis, Wooami, Sun & L Interior and Rivers, and others without detention on charges of violating the Framework Act on the Construction Industry and the Fair Trade Act. Two sales staff members were summarily indicted on charges of destroying evidence and instigation.
Prosecutors found that they colluded with the successful bidder by participating in 783 bids for kitchen and general furniture projects at new apartment construction sites nationwide ordered by 24 construction companies from January 2014 to December 2022. The amount of bids colluded is about 2.3261 trillion won.
After agreeing on the order of winning the bid through a preliminary meeting and sharing the bidding price and estimate, they colluded to have the agreed company win the bid at the lowest price.
The prosecution will also indict representatives or general executives of eight companies, including former Hanssem Chairman Choi Yang-ha, to blame for the crime.
