[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Motor has started bringing battery process equipment to LG Energy Solutions and an Indonesian electric vehicle battery joint plant.
It can be mounted on 500,000 high-performance electric vehicles. Hyundai Motors will operate its Indonesian plant in the first half of next year and target the Southeast Asian electric vehicle market.
According to the industry on the 3rd, Hyundai Motor is introducing mass production equipment to its Indonesian joint plant. We are planning to complete the installation of equipment in the first half of this year. Orders for equipment at the plant began last December. "We started bringing in equipment in the first quarter," an industry source familiar with the issue said. "Equipment needed to produce batteries will be brought in sequentially."
Hyundai Motors will produce a battery of 10 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year with the construction of this line. 10GWh is capable of producing 500,000 high-performance electric vehicles. The battery produced in the factory will be mounted on the Hyundai electric vehicle model.
Hyundai Motors confirmed the construction of LG Energy Solution and electric vehicle battery plant in 2021. We are investing 1.1 billion dollars (about 1.45 trillion won) in Indonesia to build an electric vehicle battery production line. In order to enter the Southeast Asian market, Hyundai Motors decided to build a joint plant with LG Energy Solutions for electric vehicle batteries for the first time.
