[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Seoul, September 23, 2025 – Following similar moves at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) and the Financial Services Commission (FSC), all senior executives of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) have tendered their resignations at the request of FSS Governor Lee Chan-jin.
According to financial authorities, Lee on September 23 asked for the resignation of all 11 current executives – including three deputy governors and eight assistant deputy governors – and all complied. An FSS official explained,
“This was carried out in the same context as the collective resignations submitted earlier by senior officials at MOEF and the FSC.”
Broader Context of Government Overhaul
The resignations come as the new administration pushes ahead with a major reorganization of Korea’s economic and financial governance structure:
The MOEF is set to be divided into a Ministry of Planning & Budget and a Ministry of Finance & Economy.
The FSC will transfer its domestic financial policy functions to the new Ministry of Finance & Economy.
The FSS will see its financial consumer protection division spun off into a separate entity.
Observers say the wave of resignations underscores the government’s strong commitment to organizational reform and signals significant shifts in Korea’s financial regulatory landscape.
