[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] On August 20, Customs Commissioner Ko Kwang-hyo addressed the allegations related to the drug smuggling investigation involving the customs office. Speaking at the National Assembly's Administrative Safety Committee hearing on the alleged external pressure in the drug smuggling case, Ko stated that he had never made any requests or attempts to influence the investigation.

Ko clarified that he had not requested to review the investigation details or made any attempts to interfere. He acknowledged, however, that there were reports of customs employees visiting the investigation team and reviewing briefing materials, but noted that such actions were part of normal cooperation requests.

Regarding the issue of the alleged illegal disclosure of information about the case, Ko asserted that there had been no proven wrongdoing by the involved employees. He emphasized that no one had been officially charged yet, and thus, they were still allowed to continue working.

Ko expressed regret over the failure to detect the drug smuggling operation by Malaysian criminal groups, stating, "We are truly sorry for not detecting the smuggling."

Regarding the CCTV footage related to the case, Ko confirmed that he had checked but found no relevant footage.
