[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] LG Chem has appointed Executive Vice President Kim Dong-choon as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), signaling a major leadership transition. With this decision, Vice Chairman Shin Hak-cheol, who has long served as a key member of LG Group’s top executive circle, will step down from his post.

The company views Kim as the right leader to advance its portfolio and drive future innovation amid rising global uncertainties such as international trade tensions and weak chemical market conditions.

LG Chem’s board of directors announced on the 27th that Kim, head of the Advanced Materials Business Division, has been promoted to President and appointed as the company’s CEO.

Born in 1968, Kim majored in industrial chemistry at Hanyang University and earned an MBA from the University of Washington in the United States. He joined LG Chem in 1996 and became Executive Director (Senior Vice President) of Strategy and New Business Development for the Information Electronic Materials unit in 2014. In 2016, he moved to LG Corp. as Executive Director of New Business Strategy, before returning to LG Chem in late 2017 as head of the High-Performance Materials Division.

He later served as head of the Electronic Materials Division starting in December 2022, and most recently as Executive Vice President leading the Advanced Materials Business Division.

Kim is widely regarded as an expert with deep industry understanding, having held key leadership roles across LG’s advanced materials businesses. He is credited with enhancing the profitability of the advanced materials portfolio, securing new growth engines, and expanding global customer networks. His dual experience in strategic planning and new business development at both LG Chem and LG Corp. is seen as evidence of strong strategic insight and global business capabilities.
