[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, South Korea – October 23, 2025 – The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced that it has launched an official investigation into SK Shieldus following reports of a data leak involving the company’s internal and client information.

According to the PIPC, SK Shieldus detected on October 17 that data related to the company had been uploaded to the dark web and promptly reported the incident to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
The commission subsequently requested relevant materials to verify the facts and, after a preliminary review, upgraded the inquiry to a formal investigation late on October 22, when SK Shieldus officially reported a potential personal information breach.

In its report, SK Shieldus stated that a hacker had gained unauthorized access to an employee’s personal email account, leading to the possible exposure of personal data belonging to company and client representatives, including names, phone numbers, and email addresses.

The PIPC said it will examine the cause, extent, and potential violations of the Personal Information Protection Act, while also conducting a proactive inspection of major robot vacuum brands amid growing concerns over privacy risks from devices equipped with cameras and microphones.

The commission is currently reviewing privacy policies and operational practices of major brands such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Roborock, and Xiaomi, and is conducting on-site inspections and document requests to ensure compliance with data protection standards.
