[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, October 13 — South Korean authorities have launched an investigation into an alleged attempt to leak LG Display’s proprietary panel technology to a Chinese company, following a raid at the firm’s Paju production site.
According to industry and law enforcement sources, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Industrial Technology Security Investigation Unit conducted a search and seizure at LG Display’s Paju campus on October 2.
Police are currently investigating two employees suspected of violating the Industrial Technology Protection Act by attempting to transfer display-related technology to a Chinese firm. One of the suspects reportedly possessed hundreds of photographs of internal materials.
An LG Display spokesperson confirmed the investigation, stating:
“We detected signs of a possible technology leak and voluntarily requested a police investigation. The inquiry is still in its early stages, and no concrete findings have been confirmed yet.”
This case follows a similar investigation earlier this year, when police discovered indications that Samsung Display’s core technologies were being leaked to China and subsequently raided the company’s Asan campus in South Chungcheong Province.
Industry analysts note that as competition in next-generation OLED and automotive display technology intensifies, attempts by Chinese firms to acquire advanced Korean display know-how have grown increasingly sophisticated.
