[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] With the emergence of two extramarital children of Celltrion Chairman Seo Jung-jin, observers say Celltrion's governance structure could change as well as the possibility of future inheritance disputes.
According to the Suwon Family Court on the 3rd, two extramarital children filed a lawsuit with the Seongnam branch of the Suwon Family Court in 2021 and were placed on Chairman Seo's family register after the mediation was established.
This fact became known to the public through a broadcast report the day before. The biological mother of an extramarital child, identified only by her surname A, claimed in a broadcast interview that her two daughters are in a position to share inheritance.
Chairman Seo originally has two sons. Under related laws, the ratio of legal inheritance is 1.5 for spouses and 1 for children, so Seo's spouse and four children will be inherited at a ratio of "1.5 to 1 to 1 to 1."
According to U.S. economic media Forbes, Seo's assets are estimated at USD 5.7 billion (about KRW 7.6 trillion), so two children out of wedlock can inherit more than KRW 2 trillion. Even if Chairman Seo does not want inheritance, there is a possibility that he will argue in a lawsuit for half of the inheritance.
