[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] POSCO is seeking to build new facilities at its energy generation plant in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province. It is to increase performance and energy savings by replacing aging facilities.
According to the industry on the 2nd, POSCO has invested a total of 85 billion won in the first half of this year to start a new facility for the second power generation plant at Gwangyang Steel Mill. POSCO expects the work to save 15 billion won in energy costs annually.
Gwangyang Steelworks has a total of four energy generation plants from 1st to 4th, with a total of eight energy generation facilities, two for each plant. The second power generation plant, which is currently under construction, corresponds to Units 3 and 4 of them.
Earlier in 2021, POSCO spent 83.5 billion won to save 12 billion won in annual energy purchases by replacing aging facilities at its first energy power generation plants (No. 1 and 2) that supply 200 megawatt (MW).
After completing the construction of new facilities for the second power generation plant this year, the company plans to push for a project to improve the performance of facilities for the third power generation plant (5th and 6th) and the fourth power generation plant (7th and 8th) in 2025. POSCO has currently issued a related announcement, and KEPCO KPS, which has experience in carrying out the project, and others are operating a task force to win additional orders.
