[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Seoul, October 14 — NAVER’s startup investment arm D2 Startup Factory (D2SF) announced a new investment in “Summer Robotics,” a U.S.-based company specializing in machine vision and robotic sensing technology.

The Series A round was led by Applied Ventures, with NAVER D2SF joining as a participating investor.

Pioneering High-Speed Laser Event Sensor Technology

Headquartered in California, Summer Robotics was founded by a team of experts with over 20 years of experience in AI, machine vision, and robotics research.

Unlike traditional camera-based robot sensors, Summer Robotics has developed a laser event sensor that detects light reactions at the microsecond level, enabling four times faster processing, 0.1mm precision, and superior energy and data efficiency compared to existing sensors.

Its flagship machine vision solution, “Kortx,” uses this proprietary laser sensing technology to allow robots to perform precise operations in dynamic, unstructured environments. The system has already been applied in manufacturing, logistics, automotive, and semiconductor industries for assembly, inspection, and component handling automation.

Strategic Expansion into Korea’s Smart Manufacturing Market

Skyla Cullen, CEO of Summer Robotics, said:

“Korea leads global innovation in advanced manufacturing. We aim to accelerate next-generation intelligent automation by bringing our machine vision technology to Korea’s smart robotics ecosystem.”

Yongjeong Park, Head of North America Investments at NAVER D2SF, commented:

“Summer Robotics possesses unmatched technical capabilities in 3D vision sensing. Its solutions are transforming high-speed robotic manufacturing operations, and we believe it will quickly establish a strong global presence.”
