[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Wehome, a domestic shared accommodation platform, filed Airbnb with the Fair Trade Commission.

According to the industry on the 1st, Wehome filed a complaint with the FTC last month to the effect that Airbnb monopolizes the shared accommodation market in an illegal way.

Wehome, which received the ICT regulatory sandbox demonstration exception, is the only platform in Seoul that can provide shared accommodation to Koreans.

However, Airbnb is also known to have many hosts who operate domestic accommodations in downtown areas such as Seoul.

The FTC cannot determine whether Airbnb's business method is illegal, so it is expected to only look into whether it violated the Fair Trade Act, including whether it abused its dominant market position.

"We cannot confirm the details of the report," an FTC official said.
