[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul / Texas, October 10 (local time) — Samsung Electronics faces a potential payout of $445.5 million (approx. ₩6.38 trillion) after a U.S. federal jury ruled that the company infringed on several wireless network patents held by Collision Communications, a New Hampshire-based technology firm.

According to reports from multiple U.S. media outlets, the Eastern District Court of Texas jury found that Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones and laptop computers infringed upon four patents owned by Collision Communications, which are designed to improve wireless network efficiency. The lawsuit was first filed in 2023, with Collision alleging that Samsung had used its patented technology without authorization.

The verdict represents the jury’s recommendation and serves as the first stage in the U.S. judicial process. The presiding judge will now issue a formal ruling based on the jury’s findings. Samsung has the option to appeal the decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit if it contests the outcome.

Neither Samsung nor Collision Communications has yet issued an official statement regarding the verdict.

Industry observers note that the ruling underscores the increasing frequency of intellectual property disputes between global tech companies, particularly in the competitive wireless communications sector.
