[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, October 11 — Workers at Incheon International Airport have decided to end their 10-day strike and return to work, while union leaders continue negotiations through a leadership-only strike.
The Incheon Airport Branch of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers’ Union (KPTU) held a rally at Terminal 1 on Friday morning, announcing that striking members would resume on-site duties while union executives would maintain a “leadership-level strike” to continue bargaining efforts.
In a statement, the union said, “Rank-and-file members will continue lawful industrial action, while branch leaders will sustain a focused strike to push negotiations forward.” It added, “If our demands are not met, we will launch an indefinite general strike starting October 25.”
The union is calling for several key measures, including a shift to a three-team, two-shift work system, increased hiring of subsidiary employees, and stronger industrial safety measures to prevent workplace accidents during extreme weather conditions in both summer and winter.
