[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun]Samsung Electronics has decided to stop applying its own mobile application processor (AP) for two years. Mobile AP is a key component that acts as a 'brain' for smartphones and tablet PCs. Samsung Electronics has installed its own mobile AP 'Exynos' and Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon' in its flagship (high-end) smartphone Galaxy S series, and will only use Qualcomm products until next year.
According to some Korean media reports on the 27th, Samsung Electronics has decided to hire all of Qualcomm's mobile APs for the Galaxy S23 to be released this year and the Galaxy S24, which is scheduled to be released next year. The Galaxy S23, which will be unveiled for the first time next month, will be equipped with Qualcomm's latest mobile AP "Snapdragon 8," which is said to be a dedicated product that has increased computational speed and improved to suit Galaxy phones.
After the GOS controversy, Samsung Electronics decided to suspend the application of Exynos' Galaxy S series for two years at the top management level.
This is based on internal reviews that mobile AP development and smart device development were carried out separately, making it less efficient or difficult to optimize products. The AP solution development team will develop next-generation products together with the System LSI division.
