[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Ecopro, SK Eco Plant (formerly SK Engineering & Construction) and electric and electronic waste company Tess will establish waste battery plants in Hungary.

The three companies signed a business agreement on the 16th at the headquarters of SK Eco Plant in Susong-dong, Seoul. Song Ho-joon, president of Ecopro, Park Kyung-il, president of SK Ecoplant, and Terence Ng, chairman of Tess, attended the meeting. The size of the factory and the amount of investment will be decided after further discussion.

The three companies will build a factory in Hungary that recycles waste batteries with the aim of completing them by 2025. Hungary, which has battery plants such as Samsung SDI and SK On, is the world's fourth-largest battery producer as of last year.

First of all, SK Ecoplant and its subsidiary Tess will secure raw materials such as waste batteries and scraps (defects from the manufacturing process) from Hungary-based companies. Ecopro recycles waste batteries based on its own wet process technology to extract lithium.
