[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] POSCO and Hanwha Engineering & Construction will jointly develop Vertiport, an essential infrastructure for urban air transportation (UAM), a future means of transportation.

The Vertiport is an UAM-only take-off and landing site that takes off and land vertically, mainly installed on top of buildings.

POSCO announced on the 24th that it signed a joint research agreement with Hanwha Engineering & Construction and Korea Airports Corporation at the headquarters of the Korea Airports in Gangseo-gu, Seoul on 'strategic technology development to respond to the future UAM construction market'.

POSCO and Hanwha Engineering & Construction will establish a UAM Vertiport standard model through joint research and start research and development of steel material production optimized for Vertiport. The Vertiport they developed will be applied to MICE in Seoul and Bertieport in Suseo Station in 2025.

POSCO is planning to design a steel structure using lightweight steel materials in consideration of the characteristics of the building-type Vertiport, which is installed on the roof of the building and repeatedly takes off and land. A steel structure is a solid structure in which columns and beams are integrated and connected.

In addition, the company will develop modular steel structures that can easily increase the size in preparation for the possibility of increasing the number of gases in operation and expanding terminal space. Vertiport will be equipped with a building-integrated solar generator.
