[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Heavy rains on the 11th caused flooding damage to a new apartment complex in Seoul again. Controversy over poor construction has been growing as it has been known through online communities and others that facilities in the complex have been locked in 21 days since last month.

According to industry sources on the 12th, amid a heavy rain warning in Seoul due to heavy rains on the 11th, many parts of the complex, including the "Gaepo Xi President" community center and walkway in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, were flooded.

A series of photos of water rising to the height of pedestrians' ankles were posted on real estate-related online communities, which quickly spread the damage from flooding. Mockers such as "Sunsal Xi Ear Water Xi" were also poured into the online community.

When a heavy rain warning went into effect across Seoul at 2:20 p.m. on the same day, the management office sent out an announcement saying it would suspend the operation of community facilities. In addition, the complex is known to have suffered leaks at some facilities, including community centers and underground parking lots, last month.

The complex is a great place for 3,375 households built by GS Engineering & Construction by rebuilding Gaepo Jugong Complex 4. It is a new apartment that started moving in at the end of February, and the sale price is well over 2 billion won to 3 billion won by area.

In response, GS E&C said that the area around the community center, which was flooded the previous day, has a low area and was designed without an outside space to build it in an open type, and external rainwater came in, adding that it is considering replacing it with a larger drainage pipe.

It was also explained that the leak at some facilities last month was caused by the accumulation of deposits such as materials left after construction in drainage channels.

However, in the wake of a series of water-related damage at a new complex that has moved in less than half a year, some residents are raising concerns that it may be a construction problem, not heavy rain.
