[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics has developed a memory semiconductor for next-generation graphics.

According to the industry on the 20th, '32Gbps GDDR7 DRAM' was recently developed for the first time in the industry. This is the result of the industry's first successful development of '24Gbps GDDR6 DRAM' last year. The new product will be installed in the next-generation system of major customers and will be verified by the end of this year.

The '32Gbps GDDR7 DRAM' has improved data processing speed by 1.4 times and power efficiency by 20%. Samsung Electronics applied 'PAM3 signal method' to this product to realize a speed of up to 32Gbps per data input and output pin. The 'PAM3 signal method' can transmit 1.5 times more data in the same signal cycle than the existing 'NRZ method'.

A company official explained that "32Gbps GDDR7 DRAM" can handle up to 1.5TB of data per second by mounting it on a graphics card. It is the speed at which 50 30GB UHD movies can be processed in one second.

'32Gbps GDDR7 DRAM' is expected to be widely used in various fields such as next-generation high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), and autonomous vehicles. Currently, GDDR6 products are mainly used, and industries predict that the transition to GDDR7 will begin next year and GDDR7 will become mainstream in 2025.
