[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Regarding the collapse of an underground parking lot in an apartment building in Geomdan, Incheon, the level of disposal by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for GS Engineering & Construction is expected to be finalized around mid-January next year.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the construction industry on the 4th, the Administrative Disposal Review Committee will hold a hearing on GS Engineering & Construction's suspension of business on the 12th and listen to GS Engineering & Construction's official opinion.
GS Engineering & Construction will be given another chance to present its opinion within a week after the hearing. The deliberation committee then organizes its opinions and decides on the final level of disposal. It will take a total of a month after the hearing, and the final disposition is expected around January next year.
The key is whether the final disposition of the deliberation committee will be reduced from the "eight months of suspension" issued by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in August. It will be implemented if GS Engineering & Construction accepts the deliberation committee's decision. However, if GS Engineering & Construction takes legal steps such as applying for suspension of execution, the disposition will be decided by the court.
The suspension of operations between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Seoul Metropolitan Government is expected to proceed separately. In August, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport imposed an eight-month suspension on the construction company, GS Engineering & Construction Consortium, and its suppliers. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it will ask the Seoul Metropolitan Government to suspend its business for two months in response to its insincere performance of quality tests and safety checks.
