[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into a number of recalls conducted by Hyundai and Kia, saying there is a risk of a car parts fire.
The Defect Investigation Bureau (ODI) under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will conduct an investigation into a total of 16 recalls conducted by Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors regarding the leakage of brake fluid.
Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. each carried out eight recalls from 2016 to this year due to concerns over a fire in their anti-locking brake system (ABS) module. There are 6,383,145 vehicles subject to recall.
The defect investigation bureau has received recall reports from Hyundai and Kia, respectively.
The ODI believes that the 16 safety recalls involve the ABS module and electronic control hydraulic system (HECU) produced by vehicle parts maker Mando, and will look into whether the defect decision-making process was appropriate and whether it complied with reporting obligations.
We also plan to investigate why various solutions have been found in the recall several times ．
