[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] A series of cases of omission of rebars, the cause of the collapse of an underground parking lot in a new apartment building in Geomdan, Incheon, have been detected in a complex ordered by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).

Five complexes, including Paju Unjeong and Namyangju Byeolnae, are controversial as they have even completed moving in. Of the 15 complexes where rebar omissions were found, 10 were designed and five were found to have construction defects. There is also a growing criticism of LH's lax management and responsibility.

According to a survey of 91 apartment complexes ordered by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 31st, 15 of the apartments with the rubber plate structure applied to the underground parking lot were found to be missing steel bars.

In the Seoul metropolitan area, insolvency was found in four pre-sale houses and four rental houses. In provincial areas, flyer reinforcement work was poorly constructed in one pre-sale house and six rental houses.

The site with the largest number of missing rebars was Yangju Hoecheon A15, which was constructed by HANSHIN E&C, with 154 rebars missing from the muryangpan columns.

"It is heartbreaking that we failed to work on safety in LH public housing," said Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Won Hee-ryong. "We will carry out quick and complete reinforcement measures to ensure that there is no defective plate structure."

"We will also conduct a full investigation into the structure of steel plates ordered by private companies," he said. "We will carry out investigations, charges, legal responsibility and personnel measures for all officials who need to be held responsible."
