[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Wonik IPS, a semiconductor and display equipment company, recorded a deficit for two consecutive quarters due to the prolonged slump in semiconductors.

As front-line companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix reduced their investments due to poor performance, both sales and operating profit fell.

Wonik IPS announced on the 9th that it tentatively reported consolidated sales of 134.6 billion won and operating losses of 18.2 billion won in the second quarter. Compared to the previous quarter, sales fell 10.45% and operating losses increased 70.06%. Compared to the same period last year, sales fell 32.62% and operating profit turned into a deficit.

Wonik IPS is a company that produces and sells all-process equipment for semiconductors and displays and is considered the largest partner of Samsung Electronics. Last year, Wonik IPS recorded sales of 505.1 billion won through Samsung Electronics. Half of the sales came from Samsung Electronics. Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display also hold 3.77% of the company's shares each for the purpose of securing technological competitiveness.

However, amid a slump in Samsung Electronics' semiconductor performance due to the recent sluggish semiconductor and display industries, Wonik IPS's performance has no room for improvement. Wonik IPS recorded sales of 150.7 billion won and operating loss of 10.7 billion won in the first quarter of this year. Compared to the same period last year, sales fell 27.9% and operating profit fell.
