[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] StarLink, a subsidiary of SpaceX in the U.S., will join hands with SK Telink and KT SAT to showcase low-orbital satellite communication services within this year.

According to industries on the 18th, Starlink signed an agreement with SK Telink and KT SAT last month to provide low-orbital satellite communication services in Korea. It will be available as early as the fourth quarter of this year. It is currently waiting for approval from the Ministry of Science and ICT, which is in charge. LG Uplus did not provide satellite-related services, so it was excluded from the agreement.

Currently, Starlink is spurring the commercialization of Korean services. StarLink established 'StarLink Korea' in March to take charge of Korean business. In May, the government also registered as a key telecommunication business operator. Currently, the official website of Starlink guides the timing of Korean satellite communication services to the fourth quarter of 2023.

Low-orbital satellites are drawing attention as next-generation communication technologies in that they are close to the ground, have low delay rates, and can resolve shaded areas of existing ground communication.

The service type provided by this agreement is being coordinated, but it is known that it has been set as a service for B2B (Business-to-Business Transaction) such as ships. SK Telink has satellite antenna technology and services for ships, and KT SAT has its own satellites such as geostationary orbit, and is expected to continue to cooperate with Starlink.
