[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Following Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix is also expected to see its deficit shrink in the third quarter of this year.
According to FnGuide on the 17th, SK Hynix's third-quarter sales are estimated at 8.466 trillion won and operating losses at 1.6424 trillion won. Compared to the third quarter of last year, sales will decrease by about 27% and operating losses will continue for the fourth quarter from the fourth quarter of last year.
However, compared to the first and second quarters, earnings improvement is notable in the third quarter. Not only will sales rise quarterly, but operating losses will also decrease significantly. It lost 3.4 trillion won in the first quarter and posted a deficit of about 2.88 trillion won in the second quarter, but the loss is expected to fall 1.24 trillion won in the third quarter from the second quarter. Operating losses in the second quarter fell 520 billion won from the first quarter, but the recovery is more noticeable.
Stock markets have steadily lowered SK Hynix's loss estimates. The operating loss consensus three months ago was 2.1879 trillion won, but it was reduced to 1.7166 trillion won a month ago and further revised down this month.
Securities firms expect SK Hynix to post a surplus in the DRAM business from the third quarter. Sangsangin Securities analyzed that it will generate 143.9 billion won in profits from the DRAM business in the third quarter. SK Securities expected a higher profit of 707 billion won.
