[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, September 24, 2025 – Eastar Jet announced that beginning October 1, it will prohibit passengers from using portable power banks to charge personal devices on all domestic and international flights. The airline said the measure is a proactive step to strengthen in-flight safety management and will be implemented on a three-month trial basis.

Under the new policy, passengers will still be allowed to bring power banks on board in accordance with existing carry-on regulations and may keep them in their possession or in seat pockets. However, use of the devices for charging will be strictly prohibited during taxi, takeoff, cruising, and landing.

An Eastar Jet spokesperson explained:

“Globally, the number of lithium-ion battery fire incidents has been rising, and many international carriers have already banned the in-flight use of portable batteries. Since most in-flight battery fire accidents occur during charging, we have decided to introduce our own restrictions to ensure safer operations.”

The airline will notify passengers repeatedly at airport counters, boarding gates, and inside the cabin to minimize confusion. Detailed information on carry-on allowances and conditions for portable batteries is available on the Eastar Jet official website.
